Pizza night on the Surf Coast

After a long day at the beach, pizza is the easy answer, and Torquay has plenty. There are five takeaway pizza shops that deliver, from our favourite, Town & Country in Torquay North, to Domino's on the highway. For a sit-down pizza dinner, there's wood-fired at The Cave in Jan Juc, Il Matto on Bell Street, Luigi's on The Esplanade and the two pubs.

Most of the pizza shops are in the town centre, about five minutes' drive from north Torquay. Town & Country is the exception: it's in the Dunes Village shops on Fischer Street, closer to the north end of town.

Takeaway and delivery

Town & Country Pizza and Pasta Host favourite

Our pick, and the closest to north Torquay, at 222 Fischer Street in the Dunes Village shops. It's part of a Victorian chain that's been making pizza and pasta from family recipes for more than 25 years, and it's the best-rated pizza place in town on Google. A large traditional is about $27 and a gourmet $30, there are pastas, risottos and gluten-free bases, and you can eat in. It opens at 4pm and delivers.

Dough Bros Pizza + Bar

On Geelong Road, the main road into town. Traditional pizzas start at $16.50 and gourmet at $19.50, and two large pizzas with garlic bread are $53.50. The Lot is the one reviewers recommend. There's lasagne too. It opens at 5pm, and does pickup, delivery and pre-orders.

Bubba Pizza

On Bell Street, part of a family-owned chain. Pizzas on homemade bases, pasta, schnitzel and lasagne, and the most deals of anyone, up to ten large pizzas for a party. It opens at 4.30pm and is on Uber Eats.

Sugo Gourmet Pizza Bar

On Pearl Street, with the longest menu in town: traditional pizzas from $16.50, a specials board with Moroccan lamb and chicken and pumpkin, calzones, and a whole section of vegan pizzas with vegan cheese. The pick if someone in the group is dairy-free. Open from 4pm, with pickup and delivery.

Domino's

At Shop 2, 108-110 Surf Coast Highway. The usual Domino's menu and deals, and it's one of the late options, open until 10pm, like Bubba Pizza. Our fast food guide has the other chains.

Wood-fired, sit-down

The Cave Wood Fired Pizza

In the Jan Juc shops on the clifftop, about 10 minutes' drive. It's licensed, with local wine and beer, and the house pizzas run from the Prawn Star to the Hot Don with local hot honey ($23 to $30). There are vegan and kids' pizzas, and you can book. Open Thursday to Sunday from 5pm.

Il Matto

A Sicilian family restaurant on Bell Street, with wood-fired pizza, handmade pasta and gluten-free bases. Try the pizzolo, a stuffed pizza from the hills of Siracusa. It's the one for a proper night out, so book in summer.

Luigi's Italian Restaurant

On The Esplanade, across from the beach, with the longest wood-fired pizza list in town, from a margherita at $25 to prosciutto and rocket or garlic prawns at $35. Pasta and risotto too, lunch on weekends, and takeaway.

The pubs

The Torquay Hotel has a pizza kitchen in its beer garden, with 12-inch Neapolitan-style pizzas from $25. Blackman's Brewery, also on Bell Street, does wood-fired pizzas with its beer. Both are good with kids.

Coming soon: Lucia's

Lucia's, the fish and chip shop on the Surf Coast Highway, is adding a wood-fired pizza shop and bar. In October 2026 it was still "opening soon".

Which one?

For a night in at the north end of town, Town & Country. It's close, it's good, and there's pasta for anyone who doesn't want pizza. For a big group on a budget, compare the deals at Dough Bros and Bubba. For vegans, Sugo.

For a night out, The Cave if it's Thursday to Sunday and you'd like a glass of local wine with it, or Il Matto for a proper Italian dinner. With kids who need to run around, the Torquay Hotel's beer garden.

Feeding a big group

If the house is full, the meal deals add up. At Dough Bros, three large pizzas with garlic bread, wedges and a drink are $96. Sugo's three-large deal, with garlic ciabatta, wedges and a drink, is $76. Bubba does five or ten large pizzas at a time, which is the easy way to sort a birthday or a team dinner. Half-and-half pizzas, at most of the shops, help when the group can't agree.

Ordering online lets everyone add what they want before you pay, and most of the shops take pre-orders, so you can order in the afternoon and pick up on the way back from the beach.

Pizza at the beach

On a warm evening, take it to the foreshore. From Bell Street or Pearl Street it's a short walk to the lawns above Front Beach, with a playground close by and the sunset over the water. From Town & Country, head down to Whites Beach or Fishermans Beach at the north end of town. Keep an eye on the gulls.

For an ice cream afterwards, Nordenfine is on Bell Street, and Augustus and Dooley's are on Gilbert Street.

Pizza on a day trip

Further down the coast, there's Anglesea Pizza in Anglesea, The Captain of Aireys in Aireys Inlet, and Pizza Pizza and Salonika Social Pizzeria in Lorne. They're handy if you're staying out for the sunset on a day down the Great Ocean Road.

Gluten-free and vegan

Town & Country, Sugo, The Cave and Il Matto all have gluten-free bases. Sugo has the most vegan choice, and The Cave has a vegan special with cashew puree and pistachio dukkah. None of them can promise a pizza is free of traces, so for a serious allergy, talk to the staff.
