The shop

Sugo Gourmet Pizza Bar is at 22 Pearl Street, in the town centre near HugSiam, about five minutes' drive from north Torquay. It's mostly a takeaway, with pickup and delivery.

It has the longest menu of the pizza shops in town. The traditional pizzas sit alongside a board of gourmet specials and a whole section of vegan pizzas, which makes it the pick if someone in the group doesn't eat dairy.

What to order

Prices are from Sugo's online ordering menu in October 2026.

Traditional

From $16.50, including a margherita with fior di latte and basil, a napoletana, quattro formaggi, and a diavola with calabrese salami and chilli.

The specials board

Moroccan lamb with butternut, feta and mint yoghurt ($19), Moroccan beef with eggplant ($19), and chicken and pumpkin with pesto and pine nuts ($18.50). The Sugo Supreme ($19) has a bit of everything, prawns included.

Vegan

The vegan pizzas use vegan cheese, like the Vegan Ortolana with eggplant, roast pepper, pesto and pine nuts ($19.50) and a Smokin' Vegan BBQ ($19.50). Reviewers rate them highly.

Deals and the rest

Two large traditional pizzas with garlic ciabatta and a drink for $54, two small with cans for $35, or three large with ciabatta, wedges and a drink for $76. To start, there are olive, pesto or garlic and rosemary pizzas ($14.50), cheesy garlic ciabatta ($9.50) and seasoned wedges with sour cream and sweet chilli ($13.50). There are calzones, salads, a kids' menu and desserts too, and half-and-half pizzas across the ranges.

Hours and ordering

Sugo opens from 4pm. Order online for pickup or delivery, including pre-orders before it opens, or ring (03) 5264 7799. There are gluten-free bases.

What people say

Sugo rates 4.5 on Google from more than 210 reviews. Reviewers like the crispy crust, the generous toppings and the quick service: one said the pizzas were ready and waiting in warming boxes when they arrived. The vegetarian pizzas, the vegan cheese and the gluten-free bases all get good mentions, and the seafood pizza comes with big prawns and scallops. The owners reply to reviews.

It's mostly a takeaway, with a few single seats. One reviewer, on the way to Bells Beach, suggested taking it away, as the smell of the open kitchen can cling to your clothes.

When it's the right call

Sugo is the place for a group with mixed diets. There are vegan pizzas with vegan cheese, plenty of vegetarian ones, gluten-free bases and a kids' menu, all on one order. The specials board has more interesting toppings than most takeaway shops, like Moroccan lamb with mint yoghurt and chicken with pumpkin and pine nuts. The deals still keep it affordable for a family.

Order ahead online in the afternoon and pick a time. That's handy on a summer Saturday, when everyone in town wants pizza at 7pm.

Pearl Street

Pearl Street is in the town centre, about five minutes' drive from north Torquay. HugSiam Thai is on the same street if half the group wants Thai, and the ice cream shops on Gilbert Street are a short walk away for dessert.

How it compares

Sugo has the most gourmet and vegan choice of the takeaway shops. Town & Country in Torquay North has the best reviews and adds pasta and risotto, Dough Bros on Geelong Road and Bubba Pizza on Bell Street are the ones for big-group deals, and Domino's on the highway stays open latest.

For a sit-down pizza dinner with a glass of wine, The Cave in Jan Juc and Il Matto are wood-fired. Our pizza guide compares them all.

Allergies

The gluten-free bases and vegan pizzas are cooked in the same kitchen as everything else, so if someone has coeliac disease or a serious allergy, say so when you order and ask the staff how they handle it.
