Thai night

After a long day at the beach, a bag of Thai takeaway on the kitchen bench is hard to beat. Torquay has two Thai restaurants, both in the town centre, and both do dine-in, takeaway and delivery. Thai at Dunes, in the Dunes Village shops in north Torquay, has closed.

They're both about five minutes' drive from north Torquay. The menus overlap (each has a pad thai, a green curry and a massaman), so it comes down to the specials and the opening days. Prices and hours below are from each restaurant's own website, ordering page or listing in October 2026.

At a glance

Restaurant Where Hours Known for
HugSiam Thai 12-14 Pearl Street Dinner daily from 4.30pm; lunch Fri-Sun Khao soi, crispy pork belly
Ms BKK Torquay Thai Kitchen 44 Bell Street Dinner daily from 5pm; lunch Fri-Sun Long menu, bookings online

The restaurants

HugSiam Thai

At 12-14 Pearl Street, in the town centre, with about 50 seats and a full liquor licence. It won the Good Food Guide's 2023 Readers' Choice award for Thai on the Great Ocean Road. The menu goes further than most: khao soi, the northern Thai coconut curry noodle soup with both soft and crispy noodles ($22.50 to $23.50 at dinner, topped with chicken katsu or crispy pork belly), a red curry of roast duck with lychee and pineapple ($27.50), a jungle curry, and the chef's choo chee king prawns ($27.50). House-made crispy pork belly turns up all over the menu, in fried rice, pad thai and pad see ew ($23.50). The everyday curries and noodles are $16.50 to $17.50. It's open for dinner from 4.30pm every day, and for lunch from midday on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, when there are lunch-box sets with rice and a spring roll for $15.50. Its website also advertises the lunch special from Wednesday, so it's worth a look midweek. Order ahead for pickup or delivery through its website, or ring (03) 5261 7111.

Ms BKK Torquay Thai Kitchen

The newer of the two, at 44 Bell Street, with a long numbered menu. Curries, stir-fries, noodles and fried rice are mostly $18.90, the crispy pork belly dishes and the grilled gai yang chicken are $21.90, and there's a braised beef tom zaap soup ($21.90) and a house crispy seasoned chicken ($19.90). For drunken noodles, it's the pad kee mao. Takeaway rice dishes start at $17.90. It's open for dinner every night from 5pm (until 8.30pm Sunday to Thursday, and 9pm on Friday and Saturday), plus lunch from 12pm to 3pm Friday to Sunday. You can book a table online, which is handy for a group, or order for pickup or delivery. Phone (03) 5218 5990.

Which one?

For a sit-down dinner with a drink, HugSiam has the most room and the most interesting menu, and the khao soi is the dish to try. For a group that wants to be sure of a table, Ms BKK takes bookings online. Both are in the town centre, so from the north end of town allow five minutes each way for a pickup.

Both are open every night, Mondays included. If it's Thai for lunch you're after, both do it from Friday to Sunday.

From north Torquay

With Thai at Dunes gone, there's no Thai restaurant in north Torquay any more. Both of the town-centre restaurants are an easy drive, and Pearl Street and Bell Street are a block apart, so parking for a pickup is rarely a problem outside the summer holidays. On a hot January night, order ahead and give yourself a few extra minutes.

If you'd rather not leave the Dunes Village end of town, Town & Country Pizza is in the same shops on Fischer Street. Our takeaway guide has the rest of the quick options.

Takeaway and delivery

Both are on Uber Eats as well as taking their own orders. Ordering direct for pickup is usually the quickest on a busy summer night, and it's only a few minutes' drive. HugSiam and Ms BKK both take pre-orders through their websites even when they're closed, so you can order in the afternoon for an early pickup.

With kids, the safe bets are on every menu: pad see ew, fried rice, satay chicken skewers, spring rolls and a mild massaman or yellow curry. The chilli symbols on the Ms BKK menu are a good guide to what to steer clear of.

Vegetarian and gluten free

Vegetarians do well at both. HugSiam has a vegetarian mixed entree, a vegetable tom yum and a stir-fry of Asian greens and tofu, and most of its curries and stir-fries come with tofu or vegetables. Ms BKK has vegetable spring rolls, curry puffs and crispy tofu to start. Ms BKK marks its gluten-free dishes, which include the Thai salads and the khua kai noodles, but ask about fish sauce and soy if it matters.

Thai flavours elsewhere

Over the creek, Bird Rock in Jan Juc does Asian-inspired share plates, and its menu has a pad thai and a Thai coconut curry alongside the dumplings and bao. It stays open later than the Thai restaurants, with live music some nights. For Vietnamese, Pholklore is on The Esplanade.
