Stocking up for the stay
Torquay has plenty of places to buy a drink to take home. There are three big-chain bottle shops next to the supermarkets, a Thirsty Camel at the Torquay Hotel, a Harry Brown on Geelong Road, two independent wine shops in town, and a grocer with local wine and beer. Jan Juc has a bottle shop at the pub. The breweries and the distillery sell to take away too, and the nearest Dan Murphy's is about 13 minutes' drive at Armstrong Creek.
If you're staying at the north end of town, the closest is BWS Torquay North in the Dunes Village shops on Fischer Street. Everything else is about five minutes' drive away, in the town centre or on the main roads in.

Which one?
For a quick top-up at the north end of town, BWS Torquay North. For the late-night run, Thirsty Camel at the Torquay Hotel or Liquorland, both open until 10pm on the busier nights. For a good bottle of local wine, or a gift to take home, Corks Crew Cellars or the Torquay Wine Store, where the staff know the wines. For beer that was brewed down the road, Bells Beach Brewing or Blackman's.
Drinking on the beach
Surf Coast Shire has a ban on drinking alcohol in public places. You can be fined $200 on the spot for drinking, or carrying an open container, on the streets or in public reserves, and that includes the foreshore. Glass is banned on the foreshore reserves too. So keep the bottle for the deck back at your accommodation, or have a drink at one of the pubs and bars with a view of the water.
Bottle shops won't sell to anyone under 18, so bring ID if you might be asked.
