What Fisho's is
Fisho's is a casual seafood place at 36 The Esplanade, the beachfront strip in the middle of Torquay. You can eat in or take away. The beach is over the road, so plenty of people grab a box of fish and chips and carry it across to the foreshore lawns.
It keeps things simple. Fish and chips, fish tacos, a poke bowl, a couple of salads, and margaritas and local craft beer on the drinks side. Time Out Melbourne describes it as having beach views and sunny al fresco seating, and that's about the size of it. Nobody's dressing up.
This is an independent guide; menus, prices and hours change, so check Fisho's website before you go.
The story
Fisho's is run by Luke Edwards and Luke Dalton. According to Time Out (April 2024), they're long-time friends who spent years working in bars and restaurants on Victoria's ski fields before coming home to Torquay to open a seafood place of their own.
On its own site and menu, Fisho's says it uses fresh Australian, locally sourced, wild-caught seafood, with sides made in house. It also says it's committed to getting rid of single-use plastics, which is a nice thing to know when you're eating a few metres from the sand.
What's on the menu
These are from the spring 2026 menu on the Fisho's website. Prices change, so treat them as a guide only.
Fish and chips
The main event. Today's fish, grilled or fried, with hand-cut Mt Prospect potato chips and dill tartare ($26 on the spring menu). Which fish it is depends on the day. The menu says to check the boards for today's fish and specials.
Fish and salad
Same fish, grilled or fried, with a salad instead of chips ($26). The spring options were a savoy cabbage and radicchio salad with an orange vinaigrette, and a frisée and pear salad with pickled fennel.
Fish tacos and poke bowl
The tacos come three to a serve ($26), with gummy shark fried, grilled or as ceviche on La Tortilleria corn tortillas, plus chipotle, salted cabbage, salsa verde and pickled onions. Ask about vegetarian and vegan tacos. The poke bowl ($26) has a vegetarian or vegan version too.
Platters and sides
If there's a group of you, there are share platters for four ($95), with gummy shark and arrow squid grilled or fried, plus chips, salads or sweet potato cakes depending on which one you pick. Sides include chips, sweet potato cakes, togarashi rice, fried corn and sautéed greens. Sauces are extra, and there's a Fisho's hot sauce if you like a bit of heat.
Drinks and dessert
Margaritas (fresh or frozen) and local craft beers, according to Fisho's. For dessert there are Pat and Stick's ice cream sandwiches, with vegan options. A 20% surcharge applies on public holidays.
Hours, ordering and queues
Opening hours
The website lists lunch from 12pm to 3pm and dinner from 5pm to 8pm, seven days, with a note that holidays may change things. That afternoon gap catches people out. Check the website before you go.
Ordering ahead
There's online ordering through the Fisho's website, but it says ordering may be paused in busy periods. On a hot summer evening, plan on that happening. The website doesn't mention table bookings.
When to go
Summer evenings and school holidays are the busy times on The Esplanade. If you'd rather not queue, go early in the lunch or dinner window. Or go in the cooler months, when you can sit outside in a jumper and have the view mostly to yourself.
Kids
There's a kids' meal on the menu ($15 in spring 2026): gummy shark or arrow squid, grilled or fried, with hand-cut chips or salad. Being able to take it over the road to the grass is half the appeal with little ones, because they can run around while you finish your chips.
Getting there from Holyday House
Holyday House is in north Torquay, near Whites Beach. Fisho's is about 5 minutes away in the car. On foot, allow about 25 minutes along the foreshore, which is a good way to work up an appetite and means nobody has to be the driver if there's a margarita involved.
If you drive, parking along The Esplanade fills up quickly in summer, so you may end up in a side street. Or get takeaway and bring it home. Fish and chips in the backyard, then the hot tub, isn't a bad way to finish a beach day.
Nearby
Fisho's sits in a little run of places on The Esplanade. Bomboras is a few steps away for breakfast and lunch, Pond Cafe is along the same strip for coffee, and the Surf Hotel is close by if you'd like a sit-down dinner. After you eat, walk it off on the sand, or check our Torquay beaches guide for where to swim.
